Perfect end to the perfect season

Marton's Under 12's rounded off the season in perfect style today when they beat Bedale by 54 runs to win the Sillar's Shield.

Having won the toss Marton decided to bat first on a beautifully prepared wicket by Mick.Captain Kirby's decision to bat was questioned back in the dressing room by his father, who felt we should have batted second, but it soon proved to be an inspired decision as he and Jordan Lowe put on 20 runs for the loss of 1 wicket,Lowe being unluckily caught on the boundary preventing a certain 6. Alex Walsh and Matthew Hiser were next to the crease and the pair played extremely well putting on 33 runs without loss, Walsh finishing on 23 no and Hiser 10 no. Nathan Welburn and Joe Savage were the 3rd pair to bat and  contributed another 21 runs before Savage was bowled by Hockey. Last to the crease were Fez Hussain and Liam Clark, who again proved to be a fitting climax to the innings. These two put on 26 runs for the loss of only one wicket, Clark being caught and bowled by Connolly.

Bedale came into bat chasing Marton's highest score of the season and knowing that they couldn't afford to lose many wickets in the process. They started their innings well and the opening pair of Clarke and Harvey put on 14 runs before keeper Alex Walsh smartly stumped Harvey. Liam Clark piled on the pressure by clean bowling Langhorne leaving Bedale at 40 for 2. What happened after this quickly became the Alex Walsh 'golden gloves' display as time after time he stumped Bedale's batsmen to leave them reeling. In the end Alex took 6 stumpings and one catch to put any thoughts Bedale had of winning the game out of their heads. Kirby was the bowler for 3 of Alex's stumpings and Hussain 2, with Jordan Lowe 1, the other wicket came when....you've guessed it, Walsh caught Hockey off the bowling of Kirby. At the end Bedale finished at 314 for 8.

Marton win by 54 runs

Marton won with some style today, saving perhaps their best performance for the final game of the season.Alex Walsh ended the game by being chosen as 'the player of the day', but everyone throughout this remarkable season have been 'players of the day'. All of you have made a contribution to Marton under 12's making a fantastic debut to the Hambleton & District League this year. Whatever people say about  the standards in this league, it takes some consistently good cricket to win the league and cup double, whilst remaining unbeaten in any league! Well done everyone, you have made my first year as a team manager very memorable indeed. I look forward to working with you all next year!
