UNDER 11'S V NORMANBY HALL

Marton's Lions get off to a winning start!
A 'Baltic' evening greeted Marton's under 11's for their opening game of the season away to Normanby Hall.
Captain Scott Kirby won the toss and decided to field, this proved to be a shrewd move as he took a wicket with his second ball forcing Lewis Manders to play on, Scott finished the first over with a wicket maiden.Liam Clarke continued the fine start by clean bowling Manders again in the second over. Elliot Walker and Joe Savage, both making their first team debuts this evening came on to bowl the next few overs with Savage getting his first wicket thanks to a great catch by Jordan Lowe.
Jordan Lowe kept up the pressure with a fine bowling spell culminating in him bowling Leech. Matthew Hiser a recent acquisition from Saltburn made his debut by bowling a tidy over and trapping Sam Graham LBW and also getting a wicket maiden!
Liam Clarke returned to the Cricket Lane end and bowled Joe Ramsey before adding the wicket of Lewis Crosby, finishing with 3 for 9 in 4 overs. 'Hitman Hiser' mopped up the innings by taking the prize scalp of County player Fez. In between Alex Walsh, didn't let the batsmen relax for a minute narrowly missing out on 2 stumpings and a run-out.
Normanby Hall scored 243 for 8 (179 net)
Marton went in to bat and made a steady start, openers Kirby and Lowe putting on 16 runs for the loss of only one wicket, umpire Kirby Senior inexplicably giving the unlucky Lowe out LBW to Fez. Nerves began to take over and wickets fell at a steady pace with Hiser out twice for 3 runs and Welburn losing his wicket once. Debutants Joe savage and Elliot Walker then steadied the innings contributing 5 runs without loss, an outstanding debut for both these two promising youngsters.
Alex Walsh and Liam Clarke finished the innings off adding 15 runs to see Marton home with Walsh, top scoring with 13 but sadly losing his wicket twice, the first time to an absolute 'Daisy cutter', which didn't so much bounce as roll.
There were many positives to take from tonight's result....great fielding and bowling and some promising debuts by Savage, Walker and Hiser, who's nerves were only surpassed by those of their anxious fathers watching in the pavillion!
Marton scored 263 for 6 (215 net) Result: Marton Win
