Match report
Under 12's get off to cracking start!
Marton's young cougars got off to the best possible start to their first season in the Hambleton & District League this evening.
Put into bat after losing the toss, Scott kirby and Matthew Hiser got the team off to a brilliant start by hitting 23 runs off the first 4 overs, with Kirby scoring 13 n.o. and Hiser contributing a healthy 10 n.o. Faizan Hussain making his debut after switching from Normanby Hall was next to bat with Elliot Walker. Between them they added another 15 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, Hussain being caught twice.Next to the crease came Joe Savage and Nathan Welburn who put another 25 runs on the scoreboard... a record partnership for the pair!both of them finished not out. Last to the crease came Liam Clarke and Alex Walsh, last year's under 11 final pair. These two rattled off the runs scoring 32 between them, with Clarke finishing on 17 n.o. and Walsh scoring a respectable 15 n.o.
Marton's final total was a fine 311 for 2 ....295 net.
Confidence was high in the dressing room as Marton went into field, however Richmond proved no pushovers and
the first 2 batsmen Price and Lush scored a wonderful 27 n.o. in the first 4 overs. Management team Kirby and Walsh were becoming quite tense when Most improved player of last year Elliot Walker arrived at the wicket and bowled while first ball to inspire a great comeback from Marton. wickets continued to fall with Hussain , Clarke and Kirby all picking up wickets before Wicket keeper Alex Walsh ran out Cox and Gordon in the last two overs to leave Richmond at 264 for 6 .... 216 net.
Marton won by 79 runs.
Whilst this was a wonderful first result, Coaches Kirby and Walsh were under no illusions that there needed to be improvements in the field, to avoid potentially embarrassing defeats in forthcoming games and this will be the focus of Friday's practice. In the meantime...well done everybody, enjoy the moment and carry this experience forward to next Tuesday's game away to Hutton Rudby
