Marton Cricket Club Under 12's v East Harsley Sillars Shield Preliminary Round on Tue 11 May 2010 at 615pm
Marton Cricket Club Won Marton won by 72 runs
Match report
Marton's cougars put in a thoroughly professional performance this evening once again to beat convincingly an East Harsley team containing Yorkshire player Joe Gaudie. After victory at a canter over Hutton Rudby last week, Marton were warned of being complacent and set about the task in a commendable manner.
After winning the toss, Captain Scott Kirby elected to bowl first and put East Harsley under pressure immediately with a maiden over. Liam Clark complete with his passport for the long run-up then ignited the match by taking over Elliot Walker's title of 'first ball wonder' bowling Waters ! (Memo to Liam's mum...must arrive earlier next time.)
Lowe and Hiser continued the miserly bowling attack by conceding only 9 runs during their spell, with Lowe taking 2 wickets, the second a result of a smart stumping by Walsh.Hussain mopped up the innings with a pair of wickets and Walsh ran out Gaudie to leave East Harsley at 264 for 7 (208 net).
Once again the emphasis in the Marton changing room was on using the Innings to improve our batting and playing some percentage cricket , minimising the loss of unnecessary wickets by risking silly shots.
Captain Sensible, Scott Kirby and Jordan Lowe put together a solid start scoring 33 for 1,with Lowe unluckily being caught and bowled by Pennington. Hussain and Hiser then put on another 26 for the loss of 1 wicket, Faizan Hussain (Yuvraj Singh) conspired to make a match of it by taking his bails off with his own bat!
Joe Savage and Nathan Welburn were next to the crease, Savage being determined to hit his first 6 lashed the ball to all areas, without success and finished on 6 no with Welburn adding 3 no, a partnership punctuated by some suicidal attempts to run each other out.The Marton Innings finished unbeaten as Walsh hit a quickfire 13 no and Clark 7 no took the total to 296 for 2 (280 net)
So once again a cracking performance....more running between the wickets practice this friday. We even had the added luxury of tea, coffee and biscuits along with cakes and drinks!!...thanks to the catering team of Jackie and Jane.... you don't get that at Hutton Rudby you know!
Many thanks for Islam Hussain Scoring and we eagerly await our next fixture, next Tuesday at home to Scorton.
Our reward for winning this Sillars Shield cup fixture is a home tie against the Haribo kids of Hutton Rudby.
