Tonight at Thirsk's Racecourse ground, Marton Under 12's completed a fantastic first season in the
Hambleton & District League by beating Easinwold by 88 runs to win the North v South league play-off final.
Having won the toss Marton decided to bowl first and what an inspired decision it proved. Bowlers Clark and Hiser had Easingwold on the back-foot leaving the openers Summersgill and Hudson to return to the pavillion with only 11 runs for the loss of one wicket to Clark after 4 overs. Baker and Jackson were next to bat and suffered a horrendous 4 overs as the marton attack set about them. Welburn, Lowe and clark took a wicket each and Hiser two as they finished their batting with a return of 5 runs for 5 wickets. Marton's performance in the field was thoroughly professional whilst umpiring, I took a delight in watching events un-fold close -up. Clark took a further wicket as did Kirby and Hussain a fine 3 for 7 before Easingwold closed their innings on 264 for 12

Talk in the Marton changing room at half-time was centered around batting sensibly. The game was Marton's to lose and theoretically we could have all gone out to bat and scored 0 n.o. and still won! however, after congratulating them on a fine fielding performance, Marton's batsmen were sent out with one clear instruction.... bat sensibly and don't throw your wicket away.
Kirby and Lowe got off to a worrying start as Lowe was clean bowled first over aiming for 'cow corner', however they steadied the inning by putting on18 runs without further loss of wicket, kirby finishing with 8 no and lowe on 10. Walsh and Hiser were next to the crease and both batted very sensibly to add 18 no, Walsh scoring 16 and Hiser 2. Savage and Welburn came out promising some steady batting, indeed Welburn said he would be crabbing for the entire 4 overs! Both batted very professionally and put on9 runs for the loss of 1 wicket, Savage trapped LBW. A decision I gave reluctantly after consultation with the square leg umpire. Hussain and Clark wrapped -up the Marton innings by adding 24 runs for the loss of only one wicket, Husain being bowled by a 'jaffa' by Crosgrove, a ball that swung a mile.
Marton finished on 280 for 3

In the presentation ceremony afterwards, Pat Ruecroft the League Secretary congratulated Marton on a fine performance and cited the performances of Hiser Hussain and Walsh before naming Faizan Hussain as the player of the final and presenting him with a man of the match award.
A thoroughly deserved result which was a reward for a season of great cricket...well done Marton, now for the Sillar's shield!

Marton clinch Under 12's league (North) with commanding display at Scorton.
Marton completed a fantastic 2 days which saw then confirmed as Under 12's Northern champions and progressing to the Sillar's Shield Final on July 20th were they face a mouthwatering tie against Richmond or Bedale.
Tonight at Scorton's picturesque Village Green ground, Captain Walsh won the toss and put Scorton into bat on a dodgy looking wicket which demonstrated some variable bounce.Wickets tumbled at a quick rate and Clark and Hiser recorded wickets in their first over. Ali and Savage also grabbed a wicket, before Jordan Lowe took a superb 3 wickets for 11 runs in 3 overs. Walker and Welburn both bowled tidy overs as Scorton finished on 253 for 10 (177 net).
Lowe came to the crease with Clark and set about completing his Man of the match performance by whacking five 4's in the first 5 balls, on the way to a fabulous 41 n.o. Clark contributed 4 n.o. to take Marton's score to 45 from 4 overs!
Walsh and Hiser were next to bat, and Walsh set off with the same determination smacking the first 4 balls for 4 as well. Hiser added 6 n.o. as Walsh went on to score a flawless 40 n.o including 10 boundaries, taking Marton to 91 without loss.Walker and Ali arrived at the crease, with a hard act to follow and contributed 10 more runs, but losing 3 wickets in their spell. Joe Savage and Nathan Welburn finished off the Marton batting by adding another 22 runs without loss, Savage hitting his first ball for 6 on the way to an excellent knock of 18 n.o, Welburn 4 n.o.
Marton 334 for 3 (310 net) Marton won by 133 runs.
Well done lads for 2 days of great cricket, unbeaten in the league and in the final of the cup is testament to how well you have played this year. Next game is our final home match against Stokesley (date to be confirmed). Enjoy your achievements, which you should feel rightly proud of and we will see you on Friday night.

PS. Alex there is an angry looking Jaguar owner searching the streets of North Yorkshire looking for the batsmen who dented his car door....only kidding!
Under 12's v Stokesley (home)
Monday 19th June.
Under 12's v
Marton finished the season off in more typical English cricket conditions i.e rain and bad light, not the Australian conditions that we have become accustomed to over recent months.
On an evening when frequent showers were predicted Captain Kirby lost the toss and we were put into bat first by Stokesley and the signs were not good as Kirby was cleaned bowled by a 'shooter' first ball.openers Kirby an Lowe quickly got things back on an even keel by putting on 25 for the loss of 2 wickets, Lowe being caught...eventually after being dropped 3 times. Walsh and Savage were next to the crease and again struggled with the driving rain and damp wicket, putting on 14 for the loss of 2 wickets.Clark and Welburn were next to bat and did well adding 13 before Welburn was bowled by a 'jaffa' before their 4 overs concluded. Debutants PIne and Craven making their first league appearance, after excelling in the Under 11's performed very well and contributed 7 for the loss of one wicket Craven being bowled. Given the worst conditions of the season Marton recovered well for the loss of 6 wickets to post a total of
Marton 243 (net)
Marton were concerned that there total would not be enough, but were reminded that if the conditions were not ideal for them, they were unlikely to be any better for Stokesley. Stokesley opened with Hanratty and Brown who began well and scored 10 before Nathan Welburn clean bowled Hanratty. Robinson and Shields added 10 no before Bryant and Lloyd came out to the crease, Standing on the mid-wicket boundary Scott Kirby remarked to me that we really needed more wickets, no sooner were the words out of his mouth, when Walsh whipped off the bails to stump Lloyd. Walsh chipped in with another 3 stumpings, taking his wicket tally to 21 for the season, whilst debutants Craven and Pine bagged 2 wickets each as did Lowe, before Kirby took a further wicket thanks to a slip catch by Welburn which Andrew Strauss would have been proud of. Stokesley finished on

Marton won by 60 runs.
A fine end to the season for the under 12's, in there first season in the Hambleton and District Under 12 league, we have finished the season unbeaten, with the North /SOuth Play-off final on the 28th June to come as well as the Sillar's Shield final possibly on the 3rd August. The play -off final will be against either Thirsk or Easingwold, whilst Bedale await us in the Sillar's shield.
Well done to everyone for your efforts to date, let's keep this winning run going to the end of the season!

Under 12's v Thirsk (home)
Sillars Shield semi -final. Monday 5th July, 6-30pm
Marton played almost the perfect cricket match last night to beat a very good Thirsk side containing Sir Ian Botham's grandson James.Captain Kirby again won the toss and decided to put Thirsk into bat. Very soon the opposition were reeling as 4 wickets were lost in quick succession, largely due to some blinding wicket keeping by Walsh, who stumped 3 players in the first 4 overs. a caught behind followed and at one point Kirby was on a hat-trick. by the time the second pair of batsmen reached the crease, Thirsk had scored 13 for 3. the next batsmen, Bentley and Tort fared little better adding 22 runs for the loss of 5 more wickets! Hiser bagging two wickets whilst Clark rattled the stumps also. Medley and Collinson steadied the Thirsk innings by remaining not out, but some excellent fielding meant that they were only able to add 15 runs. Last to the crease came Botham and Roberts who set about the Marton Bowling with some purpose, Botham cracked Clark for 6 as well as Hussain before being caught smartly by Lowe, on the ropes going for another!. Roberts was caught behind by Walsh as the pair finished on 40 for 2
Thirsk 355 for 10 (228 net)
Manager Walsh and Coach Kirby were at pains to point out that Marton only needed to keep their wickets to ensure the victory. Opening pair Kirby and Lowe set about this task in commendable manner, with Kirby scoring14 before being unluckily caught on the boundary, Lowe added a superb 19 n.o. to leave Marton at 33 for 1 after 4 overs. Walsh and Hiser scored a further 14 runs without loss during their stint and this was followed by Welburn and Savage batting with great control to add another 5 runs without loss.Last to the crease came Clark and Hiser who followed orders to the letter...Hussain in particular showing remarkable restraint to block everything and score 9 more runs without loss.
Marton 309 for 1 (301 net) Marton won by 73 runs
Under 12's aiming for unbeaten season after victory over Hutton Rudby
Marton's Cougars continued their excellent unbeaten start to the season last night by beating Hutton Rudby by 115 runs.
The under 12's containing several under 11's and missing Captain Kirby and Matthew Hiser were first to bat after Captain Walsh won the toss. The makeshift opening pair of Alex Walsh and Joe Savage got Marton off to an excellent start by adding 26 without loss, Walsh took his Batting average to 121 by cracking 4 fours within his innings of 22 n.o.
Next to the crease were Welburn and Hussain who continued the good start by adding 20 runs before Hussain was caught and Welburn given out LBW as well as being caught before the pair returned to the pavillion. Debutants Alex Pyne and James Craven, rewarded for their excellent work in the under 11's this season were given a run in the under 12's and didn't let us down. Running like a pair of whippets between the stumps, the pair put on 16 runs for the loss of only one wicket, Payne unluckily caught mistiming his drive to mid-on. Liam Clark and Waj Ali steadied the tail by contributing 25 runs without loss to leave Marton on a very respectable
Marton 329 for 4 (297 net).
Hutton Rudby, must be sick of the sight of the Marton bowling attack and were soon in trouble, with Hussain bowling Cosgrove in his first over. Nathan Welburn was next into action and bowled an excellent 3 overs finishing with a 'season's best' 4 wickets for 10 runs! James Craven, made an amazing start to his Under 12 career by taking a wicket in his first over followed by another in his second, finishing with 2 for 7, Alex Pyne also enjoyed an over, conceding only 6 runs. Waj Ali and Liam Clark plugged away all night bowing an excellent line and length without success, until Clark had Honeyman spectacularly caught with the catch of the season by Pyne at gully. Ali bowled 2 overs for the loss of only 6 runs, whilst Clark finished on 1 for 13 from his 3 overs. Hutton finished on 262 for 10

Samaritan's switchboard jammed as Under 12's try to commit mass suicide
Marton's Cougars resembled lemmings this evening in the top of the table 6 pointer away to Richmond.
On a wicket which resembled a pudding Captain Kirby won the toss and decided to field, in the hope that the evening sun would dry the wicket out by the time we batted. Nobody would have had any idea of the lunacy to come as Marton set about destroying Richmond with a professional bowling and fielding performance.Keeper Walsh stumped Lush for the first wicket which started the domino effect with the rest of Richmond's batsmen. Lowe took a wicket in his first over followed by 3 wickets for Nathan Welburn, 4 for Scott Kirby and a wicket each for Hussain and Savage. Walsh chipped in with another stumping leaving Richmond reeling with 241 for 11

The half-time team talk was all about not getting out and playing sensible cricket, I used to think I was fairly fluent in English....apparently not, because nobody understood a single word! Kirby and Hussain started very well adding 30 runs to the total before Hussain was caught mid- wicket. Then the fun began, Wicket keeper Walsh, started again with a 4 off the first ball for the 5th match in a row and rapidly added 13 in his first over before going down with a sickening case of Geoffrey Boycott syndrome!, first he completely missed Hiser's call for a straight forward single and got ran out, then he set-off for an impossible single and ran out Hiser! Hiser contributed to the madness by getting caught and bowled.....24 runs were added by the partnership for the loss of 3 wickets!
By now, I was becoming very concerned at leg-side umpire and tried to emphasise to Welburn and Savage as they came out to bat that we didn't need to score any more runs to win.... just keep our wickets! Thankfully common sense kicked in and these two batted well adding 7 runs but lost 2 wickets in the process! By now i was beginning to be thankful that we had scored so many runs, early on as the Richmond captain optimistically tried to rouse his troops by saying'' come on, we only need 5 wickets of the last 4 overs!''
Thankfully Lowe and Clark batted out the last 4 overs adding 11 runs for the loss of only 1 wicket, Clark being bowled by While, Marton finishing on 281 for 6

Marton won by 80 runs.
Essentially this was a great result, but we didn't half make it hard for ourselves.
Maybe the tension got to us tonight, but I hope that we are much more professional against Hutton Rudby next Thursday, Fortunately I am out of the country to rest my nerves as I don't think That I could cope with witnessing another mass suicide with bats! Please lads, keep it professional and lets get through to the final of the Sillar's Shield!

Marton beat a strong Stokesley outfit by 88 runs
Marton's cougars won this evening against a decent Stokesley side who fIelded and bowled very well. Having won the toss Captain Kirby elected to bat first and quickly took on the Stokesley bowling, hitting a couple of boundaries before being bowled playing forward to Brown in the 3rd over...partner Hussain hit some tidy boundaries and eventually Marton's opening pair returned to the pavillion having notched up 24 for 1. Next to the crease came new pairing Hiser and Walsh. Walsh scored a 4 off his first ball for the 4th match running clipping the ball to leg side before hoisting his first 6 over the leg side mid-wicket.Hiser kept the runs coming with some smart singles, whilst Walsh added another 2 boundarieson his way to 24 no before the pair eventually ended on 30 runs without loss,
Elliot Walker and Jordan Lowe were next in providing a sound 15 runs for the loss of only 1 wicket, Lowe being bowled by Shields aiming for 'Cow corner'. Last to the crease came Liam Clark and Waj Ali, this pair contributed a commendable 14 runs, Ali hitting a sweet 4 before being bowled by Von Morgan.
Marton 294 for 3 ( 270 net)
At the interval, we anticipated a close match due to the excellent quality of bowling and fielding that Stokesley had subjected us to, However Kirby got us off to a fantastic start by bowling Towes and Sheilds in the first 2 overs without any runs being scored.Towes was next to face Scotty who bowled him with a peach on middle stump to set himself up for a Hat-trick.Shields must have felt very claustrophobic as Kirby steamed in, but managed to deny the Hat trick by playing a straight bat. This clearly rattled Stokesley and wickets tumbled with regularity as Hussain took a brace, one wicket due to a solid catch by Hiser and Clark followed with a wicket thanks to a smart catch by Hussain. Just before the end of the innings keeper Walsh stumped Brown off Kirby to leave Kirby with 4 wickets for 12 off 3 overs!
Stokesley 254 for 9 (182net)
Marton won by 88 runs
Half way through the season and the Under 12's remain unbeaten, next week we are away playing in the picturesque setting of Richmond ....good job it's half term week! I wouldn't fancy our chances of getting there by 6pm. Richmond so far have been our stiffest opposition and on their own ground will be quite a test....particularly if we give away as many extras as we did this evening....19! this was 6 runs more than their highest scorer, so you can guess what we will be focussing on in the nets this Friday!.
Well done lads!
Eric
Many thanks also for Joe and Nathan coming along and supporting the team, in particular Joe for scoring.
Marton continue winning streak with comfortable win over Scorton
Marton's cougars kept their winning start to the season going with a comfortable win over a game Scorton side at Stokesley Road this evening. Marton doing a 'Chelsea' and operating a squad rotation system once more introduced Waj Ali for his Home debut and Elliot Walker, whilst resting Captain Scott Kirkby and Faizan Hussain.
Vice Captain Alex Walsh Took over the captaincy this evening and having won the toss decided to bat on a sweltering Marton evening. Lowe and Hiser opened the batting and got Marton off to a flying start scoring 26 for 1 wicket, Lowe contributing a magnificent 18 no. Welburn and Savage were next to the crease and this rapidly improving partnership hit a quick-fire 23 runs, with a wonderful 15 no by Nathan Welburn. Elliot Walker and Waj Ali were next in and added a further 12 runs before the unlucky Ali was bowled by Edwards. Finally Captain and Vice Captain Walsh and Clark concluded Marton's inning adding a tremendous 27 extra runs without loss, Walsh top scoring with 19 no and Clark notching up 8 runs.
Marton 303 for 2 ....(287 net)
Scorton having worked their way through a wonderful 3 course meal ( including Sandwiches)....Many thanks Cindy! found the opening course of Marton bowling a little harder to digest. Clark, Lowe and Hiser bowled 2 maidens in the first 3overs to leave Scorton at 5 without loss after 3 overs. Savage and Welburn bowled a tidy spell taking a wicket each, Savage's a sharp catch by wicket keeper Walsh which took an eternity for the Umpire to give out! Elliot Walker then bowled 2 overs for 5 runs and
Waj Ali 2 overs for 12 to restrict
Scorton to 247 for 5.....(207net)
Marton won by 80 runs
Our next game is away to Stokesley next Tuesday 25th May.
6pm for a 6.30pm start.
Because there is a game this Friday, there won’t be a practice evening. However I will be arranging a net practice for the Under 12’s on Sunday at 2pm…see you there!

Marton maintain unbeaten run with victory over East Harsley
Marton's cougars put in a thoroughly professional performance this evening once again to beat convincingly an East Harsley team containing Yorkshire player Joe Gaudie. After victory at a canter over Hutton Rudby last week, Marton were warned of being complacent and set about the task in a commendable manner.
After winning the toss, Captain Scott Kirby elected to bowl first and put East Harsley under pressure immediately with a maiden over. Liam Clark complete with his passport for the long run-up then ignited the match by taking over Elliot Walker's title of 'first ball wonder' bowling Waters ! (Memo to Liam's mum...must arrive earlier next time.)
Lowe and Hiser continued the miserly bowling attack by conceding only 9 runs during their spell, with Lowe taking 2 wickets, the second a result of a smart stumping by Walsh.Hussain mopped up the innings with a pair of wickets and Walsh ran out Gaudie to leave East Harsley at 264 for 7 (208 net).
Once again the emphasis in the Marton changing room was on using the Innings to improve our batting and playing some percentage cricket , minimising the loss of unnecessary wickets by risking silly shots.
Captain Sensible, Scott Kirby and Jordan Lowe put together a solid start scoring 33 for 1,with Lowe unluckily being caught and bowled by Pennington. Hussain and Hiser then put on another 26 for the loss of 1 wicket, Faizan Hussain (Yuvraj Singh) conspired to make a match of it by taking his bails off with his own bat!
Joe Savage and Nathan Welburn were next to the crease, Savage being determined to hit his first 6 lashed the ball to all areas, without success and finished on 6 no with Welburn adding 3 no, a partnership punctuated by some suicidal attempts to run each other out.The Marton Innings finished unbeaten as Walsh hit a quickfire 13 no and Clark 7 no took the total to 296 for 2 (280 net)
So once again a cracking performance....more running between the wickets practice this friday. We even had the added luxury of tea, coffee and biscuits along with cakes and drinks!!...thanks to the catering team of Jackie and Jane.... you don't get that at Hutton Rudby you know!
Many thanks for Islam Hussain Scoring and we eagerly await our next fixture, next Tuesday at home to Scorton.
Our reward for winning this Sillars Shield cup fixture is a home tie against the Haribo kids of Hutton Rudby.
Eric
Marton Under 12's too hot for Hutton !
Marton's cougars put in a thoroughly professional performance this evening after winning the toss and deciding to bat at Hutton Rudby's Garbutt's lane ground.Opening pair Kirby and Hiser put on a respectable 14 run partnership which combined with extras took the score for 28 for no wicket after 4 overs. Faizan Hussain and Elliot Walker then arrived at the crease and Hussain looking more like Yuvraj Singh began to wield the bat like a club hitting 5 fours on the way to a tremendous 28 no in a partnership of 29 with Elliot, again without losing a wicket. Nathan Welburn and Joe Savage playing wicket keeper tonight, were next to bat and they continued an excellent batting performance by adding 19 for the 3rd wicket partnership without loss. Marton's Liam Clark (that's spelt without an 'e') and debutant Waj Ali took Marton to 300 without loss for the first time ever before Clark was sadly ran out before the total finally reached 310 for 1 wicket ......308 net.
Clearly Hutton Rudby were worried and tried to gain an advantage by not serving any refreshments to the teams at half-time...it didn't work!
Hutton Rudby came to the crease rather nervously and were soon placed on the backfoot. Scott Kirkby making the breakthrough in the first over by bowling Lance. The wickets continued to tumble with 'first ball wonder' Elliot Walker again taking a wicket by bowling Turnbull ! Hiser, took a wicket and the Hussain grabbed a brace before tempting Cosgrove out of his crease and allowing Joe 'stump em' Savage to whip the bails off. Liam Clark, steamed in with a run-up that took in 3 counties en-route to take 2 wickets before Kirby bowled Honeyman to mop the innings up.
Hutton Rudby 239 for 9.....167 net
A fantastic performance in all aspects of the game by Marton tonight has set the standard which we need to produce every game if we are to win this league....well done and we will see you on Friday!....some people still owe subs by the way!

Under 12's get off to cracking start!
Marton's young cougars got off to the best possible start to their first season in the Hambleton & District League this evening.
Put into bat after losing the toss, Scott kirby and Matthew Hiser got the team off to a brilliant start by hitting 23 runs off the first 4 overs, with Kirby scoring 13 n.o. and Hiser contributing a healthy 10 n.o. Faizan Hussain making his debut after switching from Normanby Hall was next to bat with Elliot Walker. Between them they added another 15 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, Hussain being caught twice.Next to the crease came Joe Savage and Nathan Welburn who put another 25 runs on the scoreboard... a record partnership for the pair!both of them finished not out. Last to the crease came Liam Clarke and Alex Walsh, last year's under 11 final pair. These two rattled off the runs scoring 32 between them, with Clarke finishing on 17 n.o. and Walsh scoring a respectable 15 n.o.
Marton's final total was a fine 311 for 2 ....295 net.
Confidence was high in the dressing room as Marton went into field, however Richmond proved no pushovers and
the first 2 batsmen Price and Lush scored a wonderful 27 n.o. in the first 4 overs. Management team Kirby and Walsh were becoming quite tense when Most improved player of last year Elliot Walker arrived at the wicket and bowled while first ball to inspire a great comeback from Marton. wickets continued to fall with Hussain , Clarke and Kirby all picking up wickets before Wicket keeper Alex Walsh ran out Cox and Gordon in the last two overs to leave Richmond at 264 for 6 .... 216 net.
Marton won by 79 runs.
Whilst this was a wonderful first result, Coaches Kirby and Walsh were under no illusions that there needed to be improvements in the field, to avoid potentially embarrassing defeats in forthcoming games and this will be the focus of Friday's practice. In the meantime...well done everybody, enjoy the moment and carry this experience forward to next Tuesday's game away to Hutton Rudby. There is every indication that this experienced squad can win this title in their first season if they can work on their weaknesses, things can only get better.
